Wow. Happy Holidays!

I can not believe Wednesday is the first day of December! Is it me or do the years just keep getting faster and faster? Are you ready??? Do you have all your decorations up? We have already had a little snow (and ice) this year and I am almost done with my Christmas shopping! You gotta love the internet :) Black Friday was in full swing! So many people and holiday shoppers in the city for the parade and the tree lighting in Westlake Center! It felt like Times Square in New York :) If that doesn't get you in the Holiday spirit, I don't know what will :)

I was just sitting here planning out the new year for our Creative Team and I swear 2011 is already full :) I am beginning to wonder if I will be able to take a vacation next year...Time will tell. (don't worry Mom!!! I'm working on it! :)

This past Saturday, I had the pleasure of doing all the wedding hair for my client's wedding party, Kristin Harbert! I could not have been more excited and elated to be a part of such a beautiful ceremony. I would show you pictures, however, my camera is on the fritz. Need to get that fixed ASAP! Take my word that the bride and all her bridesmaids were unbelievably beautiful! Congrats Kristin and Christopher! You guys make a beautiful and wonderful couple. I wish you nothing but an abundance of love, happiness and prosperity in the many years to come.

Eighties Comeback???

All I have to say is that if the hairstyles of the 80's decide to make a comeback, then I hope they look like this...

Flash Dance Style

Eniko Mihalik by Nico for Harper’s Bazaar Spain October 2010
Lily Cole by Andreas Sjödin for Vogue Nippon January 2007

I might have to brush up on my perming techniques...It's only been about 13 years since I have rolled a perm...hmmmm.

American Music Awards 2010

I will start with the worst of the evening. Hands down Ke$ha has my vote for, "WHAT the heck were you thinking!!!!"  While I do love watching celebrities push the envelope with wardrobe and makeup, this was just a big fat FAIL! Better luck next year...

Always saving best for last is....(drumroll).......

I can't even believe my fingers are going to type this person's name.....

This performer has the same first name as my favorite brother......

Taylor Swift! OMG...Doesn't she look amazing! I can't believe my eyeballs...

I love the color and the cut...very grown up.
Way to go Taylor, on the new look. It suits you well!
I hope that everyone has a great Thanksgiving eve and enjoy the feast with family and friends! :)

Ombre Hair Color

Ombre is a French term meaning "two toned".  Ombre hair is the look you get when you normally color your hair but do not go for regular touch ups. This is what naturally happens to kids during the summer months when their hair gets lighter from the sun and then fall and winter come along, leaving the kids with two toned hair. Lighter on the ends and darker at the roots. Having this technique done on your hair, is being happy and proud of your natural hair color. To sum Ombre up, I think it was Sarah Jessica Parker who coined the phase "Poverty Roots".

Ombre hair is the more extreme version of a close relative of another french technique called Balayage. Defintion: A free style technique of  painting highlights onto the hair. Balayage is meant to give your hair the sun kissed summer version of your natural hair color. Both of these techniques tend to work better on women who have little to no gray in their natural hair color. They can also be done over a all over color, but make sure you hair is in good health before jumping right in. Both blondes and brunettes can pull off either of these looks. But I have to say that too dark of a brunette might get a little warmer than one is hoping for.

Ombre Examples
Ashley Simpson

Drew Barrymore

Much lighter ends

Great with long wavy locks

Balayage grown out

Extreme creative version of the Ombre technique

Balayage Examples

SJP sporting Balayage

Gisselle, the model who put Balayage on the map!

Tastefully executed sun kissed Balayage

Even though these trends are usually seen around in the spring and summer, sometimes you just need a little pick me up for the winter blues. Have fun exploring these two creative techniques.

Electric Feel

Seattle has been a little snowy and very cold today. It has been a great day to snuggle with the the pooch and make a sweet potato pie from scratch. Crust and all. :) A little trial run for Thanksgiving.

However, usually this time a year, a lot of static occurs with peoples hair. There just isn't enough moisture in the air to keep the static away. But I have a remedy...Fabric softener sheets!!! Who knew! If your are in a pinch, these sheets work wonders on making static disappear instantly. Not to mention, it gives your hair that fresh "out of the laundry" smell!

Try it and let me know how it works for you!

The Messy Chignon

One of my favorite things about having longer hair is the ability to pull it up out of the way...Hence these great messy chignon looks that look effortless and work from day to evening.

These above, are four great examples of how to achieve a distinctive classy chignon.

Love this unique idea of tying cord or ribbon around a pony tail first then shaping into a chignon.

Great use of a little extra hair but keeping it classy.

Have fun playing around with some of these looks. Your sure to be the envy of all the gals at the ball :)

Fabulous Short Hair Styles

I absolutely love love love short hair on women. For the most part, long hair is the style to attain for right now. If you watch any of the prime time gossip shows or read any gossip magazines, most women have long wavy tresses. I'm included in that category. :) Long hair is pretty easy to take care of given your are able to take the time to style your hair. However, one of the things that I LOVE about short hair is the lack of time it takes to style. Hopefully, it only takes a woman with shorter hair, a fraction of the time to blowdry and get out the door. The most appealing shorter styles to me are below...

Sienna Miller
This is great style that even though is short, is still kept feminine. This works on finer textures of hair.

This is all about softness and elegance.

Carey Mulligan

Carey Mulligan

Carey's hair looks great in a pixie and in the grown out version as well. Here again, it's all about texture and softness.

Gennifer Goodwin
Gennifer's hair shows off her striking features. Because she has soft features she can get away with a more severe version of the pixie haircut. It's all about balance.

Before
After

Emma Watson even jumped on the Pixie haircut bandwagon.

Sharon Stone

Sharon Stone has always had the BEST short hair. Effortless softness and texture.

Maybe one day, I too will jump back on the short hair bandwagon. The key is to keep it soft and feminine and to have fun!

Erin's Holiday Shoot for Beauty.com

BEAUTY.COM Clip featuring Erin Skipley

Click above to see Video Clip

The Holidays are right around the corner and what better way to start it off by a fresh makeup and hair look. I came across this link for beauty.com and I wanted to share it with you. Erin Skipley is a talented makeup artist and hair stylist. We have had the pleasure of working together a few times. It's wonderful to work with amazing talent in your own back yard. She gives a ton of useful information in this clip. The makeup and hair a very beautiful. I hope you enjoy and get a little inspiration for this Holiday Season. Have fun and go crazy!

Erin Skipley for www.beauty.com

"I use a combination of two foundations - Stila's Illuminating Foundation focused around the eye area and cheekbones to create that glow, and then the Natural Finish Oil-Free makeup by Stila to get rid of blemishes and under-eye circles.
I use a combination of things. Smashbox Photo Op Under Eye Brightener along with It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye.
To touch up blemishes, I use Stila's cover up stick. As a finishing powder, Smashbox Halo Hydrating Perfecting Powder.
And then cheek color. This is kind of the go-to cheek color I feel like for the holiday season. It's a really cool looking combination. It's nice because you can also use this on the lip as well.
To prep her hair, I started with a little bit of Blow's Faux Dry Shampoo just to give a little roughness to the cuticle to get that sort of fuzzy, ethereal look.
And then to set the curls, I used Ted Gibson's Beautiful Hold Hairspray. I picked out all the curls and that sort of finished off the look.
As an all-over color, all over the lid and brow bone, as well as under the eye, I used Smashbox Eyeshadow in Bliss. It's a really nice iridescent, but mostly just nude shadow.
On the center of the lid, to give a little pop to the center of the lid, I used Enlighten as a shadow by LORAC. The warmth makes it very wearable and you still get that really trendy silver that comes through.
Toward the outer corners, I used Smashbox shadow in Platinum which just gives a little bit more depth.
At the lash line, I used several things. Tart Emphasize High Definition Eye Pencil. On top of that, I worked in a little bit of this Jane Iredale eyeshadow. It's a cool plum, but it works really well into that silver, icy look.
To get the silver to really pop on the inner corner of her eye, I used the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Pencil in Yeyo. It's a really, really nice, bright silver. It pops a lot.
And for mascara, we were really going for clean definition, so we used Bare Minerals Flawless Definition mascara. The best part of this mascara really is the brush. It just defines perfectly. It never leaves any clumps.
To create the part of the look that's on her lips, just sort of that lip-stained, iced-over, glossy look, I used Stila's Yumberry Crush Lip and Cheek Stain. I only used that in the center. On the rest of her lip, I used the Vincent Longo Botticelli Dawn Blush. It's awesome. It just softly colors around where the stain is.
On the top of that, the most miniscule amount of Smashbox High Shine Lip Gloss."

Congrats to Erin Skipley for a job well done!  Check out Erin's website at www.erinskipley.com. Erin does both makeup and hair for weddings, photoshoots and runway...that's just to name a few. She also has her own blog which you can access here. :)
